Third Annual LIVE UNITED
Food Drive

United Way Logo Area businesses, including Hunziker & Associates, REALTORS®, are working with the United Way this month to help families in need put food on their table. You can be a part of it too! Simply bring your food or cash donation to any collection site May 16-26. You donation will be distributed to the one of the 14 food pantries in the county. The United Way is hoping for a large food donation this year. See the list at the right for some ideas for donations. Cash donation may be used to purchase perishable items or other items in bulk.

FoodDonation This year, Monsanto has generously offered to match $1 per pound of food up to $10,000!

Are You Ready For The Next Housing Boom?

housingboom More wealth is created when you buy at the bottom of the real estate cycle instead of at the top.

The market has shifted from its peak a few years back, and there is strong evidence that we are now at the bottom of the cycle. In looking toward the future and at certain economic indicators, you can see that now is the time to get ready for the next housing boom.
  • According to conservative estimates, the number of households is expected to increase by 1.25 million annually over the next decade.
  • Echo Boomers are the offspring of the nation's largest generation, the baby boomers...and there are a lot of them. The echo boomers are entering their peak household formation years with close to 6 million more people than the baby boomers had during the 1970's.
  • Builders have cut back on building homes to record lows. Based upon annual household formations and approximately 300,000 home demolitions, we need 1.3-1.7 million new homes built every year. At present, it is estimated that we are building only 550,000 homes this year.

Over the past decade, the population has grown by 30 million, but the number of homes sold in 2010 was not much different than the number of sales in 2000. The demand is pent up. Many are still waiting to be sure the market is at the bottom; however, with inflation possibly looming and the chance for interest rates to increase, now is the best time to reap the rewards that will come from the next housing boom!


Almost 14,000 Houses Sold Yesterday

Sold House One of the biggest misconceptions in today's housing market is that homes are not selling. That is simply not true. Last month's Existing Sales Report from the National Association of Realtors (NAR) showed that homes were selling at an "annual rate of 5.10 million". That's an average of 13,973 every day - 365 days a year!

And the monthly Pending Sales Report, which measures the number of houses going into contract each month, has showed increases in six of the last nine months prompting Lawrence Yun, NAR's chief economist to say:

"Since reaching a cyclical bottom last June, pending home sales have posted an overall gain of 24 percent and demonstrate the market is recovering on its own. The index means modest near-term gains in existing-home sales are likely."

Bottom Line
Homes are selling. You probably will need to offer a compelling price if you put your house on the market. But if you do, it will sell.

We Shredded 6,500 lbs of Paper!

Shred Day A steady stream of people arrived to shred their old documents on Saturday, April 23 during our Community Shred Day event.

By noon the truck was full with over 6,500 pounds of shredded paper! It was our pleasure to help many in the community protect their identity and rid their basements and closets of old documents with confidential information.

We would like to thank Bankers Trust and all of those who participated in our Community Shred Day.
