Market Recap - First 6 months of 2016

The first 6 months of 2016 reflect an increase in sales compared to the same time frame of 2015 despite a lack of inventory. In the Ames Residential market, the number of homes currently for sale is UP compared to the same time last year. Certain price ranges, like $225,000-$400,000, saw an increase of 39% in the number of homes sold compared to 2015 in the same price range. There appears to be a shortage of inventory for sale in the under $225,000 price range with only 33 homes currently for sale. Yet, for the first 6 months, there has been 186 homes sold in that price range, averaging only 20 days on the market. Price ranges like this are seeing a real lack of inventory, causing those homes that are listed for sale, priced correctly and in good condition to sell quickly.

See below to see how the first 6 months of 2016 compare to 2015.

National Beep Baseball World Series hits Central Iowa

BeepBaseballWorldSeries.png Ames is proud to host the 2016 National Beep Baseball Association World Series July 24-30, 2016, presented by the Iowa Lions Foundation. This is the second time the World Series will come to Iowa and will include teams from around the United States, Taiwan, and Canada. Ames was host to the NBBA World Series in 2012 and because of its success, was selected to host again this year.

Beep Baseball is the adaptive version of the traditional game of baseball for the blind and visually impaired. Each team is comprised of 15-20 adult players, both male and famale. The five day event begins with a round robin tournament to determine brackets, followed by a double elimination to crown champions. Hunziker & Associates is proud to be a supporter of this event.

Beat the Heat

ThermometerSummer.png Summer can be a wonderful time to recharge and refresh from a long winter. But if your house is draining your finances, summer can be filled with stress and strain on your wallet. There are some simple things you can do to help with your cooling costs this summer that will also help preserve the environment. Here are some easy things you can do to keep cool and avoid getting burned by your bills.
  • Keep electronics that put off heat such as computers, television sets, and even lamps away from your thermostat because the thermostat will pick up the heat from these electronics and will run your system unnecessarily.
  • Turn your thermostat fan to "auto" instead of "on". This tip alone can save you $15 to $25 a month!
  • Clean the debris from around your outdoor air conditioning component. This will help allow air flow for better efficiency.
  • Invest in a whole house fan. A whole house fan is permanently installed in your attic. When used early in the morning and after sundown, it pulls cool air into your house and forces hot air out through the attic vents. This can save you tons of money on your energy bill.

So go ahead, buy that extra ice cream cone. You deserve it for saving the environment! Want more tips, tricks, and money saving hacks? Check out our blog Beat the Heat!
