The Story County Assessor's Office is pleased to offer an exciting and easy way to file for Homestead Tax Credit and Military Tax Exemptions for property owners in Story County from the comfort and convenience of their own homes. This service allows current, or new property owners to file for credits in these two categories easily by populating the required information. Visitors can search for the required information to file for their property tax exemptions and credits by address or parcel number.

HUD Reintroduces Plan

HUD reintroduces plans to allow FHA borrowers to access the $8,000 first-time homebuyer tax credit for down payments. Current law does not permit approved lenders to monetize the tax credit to meet the required 3.5% minimum down payment, but under the terms of yesterday's announcement, lenders can now monetize the tax credit for use as additional down payment, or for other closing costs, which can help achieve a lower interest rate. This action permits the first-time homebuyer's anticipated tax credit under the recovery act to be applied toward the family's home purchase right away. Remember, in addition to the borrower's own cash investment, FHA allows parents and employers to contribute towards the down payment.
