Simple Winterizing Strategies Deliver Big Benefits

FurnaceFilter.png Often it's only with the first long snap of cold weather that we start thinking about doing some winterizing projects. Here are some simple things to do now that will save energy, money, and keep you warm all winter long.
  • Heating and cooling:
    • Have the HVAC system checked and tuned up by a professional. Many utility companies offer rebates for a HVAC Tune-Up program to offset the cost of increasing the efficiency of existing heating and cooling equipment and ductwork. Check with your provider about avaible rebates.

    • Change furnace filters. Dirty filters slow airflow and make the system work harder, leading to wasted energy and higher bills.
    • Install a programmable thermostat. Program the thermostat to turn down the heat at night and when you're away to save energy and money.
