Cheap and easy ways to fix up your house to sell.

Doing these simple repairs can not only help you sell your house quickly (which means more money), but they can also help you sell your home for the best price (which means more money!). And who doesn't want more money?
  • Declutter- Clutter is a huge deterrent to potential buyers! Grab some boxes and start packing personal items and things not essential to daily living. Create the appearence of storage and space. Consider renting a storage unit to store boxes and extra furniture.
  • Squeaky Clean- A clean home makes a big difference. Make sure the oven is degreased and the refrigerator cleaned inside and out. Wash the windows to let in as much light as possible. Shampoo the carpets to get that new house feel.
  • Simple Repairs- Get out your screw driver and WD-40 to fix anything squeaky or loose. This is a great time to move room by room and take care of any problems with doors, knobs, crooked curtains or blinds, and cabinets or drawers that aren't working properly.
  • Depersonalize Your Space- A buyer needs to be able to walk into your home and see themself living there. Start by changing all of the pictures of your family to neutral scenes that compliment each other. Consider changing any bright colored walls to a neutral tone so buyers can personalize to their liking.
  • Light the Way- Fill your house with light. Open blinds and curtains, add lamps to corner side tables. Make sure lamp shades are clean and light bulbs are working. Consider replacing standard bulbs with LED lights. A bright and clean house is most appealing to buyers.
We hope that these tips have been helpful. If you need more assistance, want to know more about selling your house, or have any questions, contact the team at Hunziker. We are dedicated to helping you with all your real estate needs. Visit our blog for more tips about selling your home.

2017 Predicted Home Trends

It's now 2017! We have successfully made it out of 2016. A new year calls for all sorts of changes. Sometimes it's hard to keep up with all the fads of a new year. Here are our predictions on what will be going and what is here to stay in 2017.
    What's Hot?

  • Velvet: Use this texture as an accent in a throw pillow or arm chair.

  • Jewel colored accents: Think ruby red, sapphire blue, or emerald green. These deep, rich colors will bring a classic and warm feel into your home.

  • Built-in bars: Whether it's a handy coffee nook or a cocktail corner, built-in bars are handy and in style.

  • Marble: 2017 says marble is a "go to" right answer-particularly in white!

  • Patterns: Florals, plaids, houndstooth, and of course stripes and polka dots are all in this year! Mix and match-there are no wrong answers.

  • Hot Colors: Bright Green- PANTONE has hailed their color "Greenery" as the Color of the Year. It represents rejuvenation, regeneration, and growth. Navy Blue- Dark blues will be preferred over black this year. Raw White- White is simple, can be paired with patterns and looks clean. Get accents, such as vases and bowls, in textured flat white.

2017 is all about seeking comfort within the chaos of life. Lots of differing, but yet cozy textures will be featured heavily in fashion this year. Look for things that are space efficient and comforting in patterns and warm colors. Visit our blog to learn more about 2017 trends.

Backpack and Suitcase Drive benefiting YSS

At Hunziker & Associates we like to give back to the community. For the month of February we will be collecting "gently used" or new backpacks and suitcases for Youth and Shelter Services. Many children coming to the Beloit Campus (which houses the children) arrive without backpacks and suitcases for their posessions.

In addition to backpacks and suitcases there is a high need for these additional items.
  • New clothing: plain colored t-shirts, sweat pants, and hoodies (adult S-L)

  • Semi dress clothes (khakis/blouses) for females (currently 7 girls). Regarding clothing, a variety of small, medium, and large.

  • Sheets – could use 10 twin sheet sets

  • Bedding for 15 beds

  • Toiletries – we could use gender-scented body wash, shampoo, and deodorant
These items will be donated to Youth and Shelter Services at the beginning of March.

Would you like to get involved and help someone in need? Please feel free to drop off your donation at our office (in the entryway) - 105 S. 16th Street, Ames, IA.
